The new season at Old World Wisconsin is beginning!
For Old World Foundation, this will be the "year of the animals at Old World Wisconsin." Our Friends have always supported the heritage breed animals at Old World Wisconsin and we are thankful for their support.
Thanks to your gifts, Old World Foundation is sponsoring the new Animal Encounters program at OWW this year. This program will offer guests the opportunity to learn about OWW's conservation efforts of the various heritage breeds on-site. Old World Wisconsin is currently home to approximately 70 animals. According to the Livestock Conservancy, "Heritage breeds are traditional livestock breeds that were raised by our forefathers. These are the breeds of a bygone era, before industrial agriculture became a mainstream practice. These breeds were carefully selected and bred over time to develop traits that made them well-adapted to the local environment and they thrived under farming practices and cultural conditions that are very different from those found in modern agriculture. Traditional, historic breeds retain essential attributes for survival and self-sufficiency, fertility, foraging ability, longevity, maternal instincts, ability to mate naturally, and resistance to diseases and parasites."
The care and feeding of these animals is costly. Each year, Old World Foundation, through donor support, has given over $30,000 to OWW for animal care. Because of this, Old World Foundation is focusing our Weekend of Giving this year on the animal program. Our Weekend of Giving is officially May 19 - May 21. We are hoping to raise $5000 through the end of May. If you would like to support the animals at OWW and assist them in their conservation efforts, you can donate here: https://bit.ly/SupportOWW2023
OWF Trustees in Action
Old World Foundation also welcomed 5 new trustees to our board in November. In January, our Board of Trustees participated in a Strategic Planning Session to discuss how we can grow our support of Old World Wisconsin. Once completed, the strategic plan will guide us in the next three years... stay tuned for more information.
